Lincoln - Logan County
Chamber of Commerce

Why Watermelons?
Lincoln, Illinois is the only town named for and by Abraham Lincoln prior to his presidency. Having assisted with the platting of the town, Lincoln was asked to participate in a ceremony that gave the town its name. On Aug. 27, 1853, Lincoln chose a  ripe melon from a wagon near the christening site, broke it open, and squeezed the juice on the grounds as he christened the town LINCOLN, ILLINOIS.

The "Mobile Melon" (above) serves as the Chamber's  traveling billboard,
promoting and marketing the Chamber and the Community.
